Echoes of Autumn began as a study in warmth and quiet transition — the colours of a season that is already leaving even as it arrives. Layers of ochre, rust, and muted gold sit against softer greys, built up slowly over several sittings rather than in a single pass. There's no single focal point by design; the eye is meant to move across the canvas the way attention moves through a still afternoon — settling, drifting, settling again. It's part of an ongoing exploration of texture and restraint, where the brushwork is left visible rather than smoothed away, so the making of the piece stays part of what you see.

Behind Echoes of Autumn.

This piece came together during a stretch of weeks where the studio was quieter than usual — fewer visitors, longer afternoons, and a lot of time spent simply looking at the canvas before adding anything to it. Autumn isn't really present in Indian studio light the way it is elsewhere, so this was less a painting of a season and more a painting of the feeling of one: things holding on a little longer than they should, colour deepening before it fades.

Deepak worked the surface in stages, letting each layer dry fully before returning to it, which is slower than his usual process but felt right for this piece. The title came late — after the painting was finished, not before — because it wasn't until we stepped back that the sense of something repeating, softly, across the canvas became clear. That's where "Echoes of Autumn" came from: not a literal echo, but the way a mood can return in slightly different form each time you look, the way the last warmth of a season lingers after it's technically gone.
